Choosing pike as your target species means you’re headed to a beautiful
location. All our pike venues – near Edinburgh, and in Argyll and  Perthshire –
are set in spectacular landscapes. Don’t let the views distract you too much
though, there are also exceptional fish to be caught!

Scottish pike get as big as 40lbs and more. They can be fished for throughout
the year and will come to surface lures and flies, as well as many other tactics,
making pike fishing a truly exhilarating experience. Summer pike fishing often
means good numbers of fish, while late autumn, winter and early spring is when
the biggest pike are caught.

Argyll

There are a number of fantastic venues for pike fishing in Argyll. Huge pike inhabit these extensive waters and our favourite ways to catch them are by fly fishing or using lures. We fish both from the bank and using boats. June/July/August and October/November are the best months, though they can be caught at any time of year. In 2017 a 40lb pike was caught in Argyll and it’s unlikely to be the biggest around.

Perthshire

The Perthshire pike venues are lochs, some of which can be hiked to, some need a 4×4 to get to and others which are more easily accessed. Each one is a beautiful place to fish in its own right. Because of the varying altitudes of the lochs we can choose one which is likely to fish well at any time from May through to October. Higher lochs fish well later, while lower ones fish earlier in the season.

Edinburgh

June is by far the best month for pike fishing near Edinburgh. We certainly get great days at other times of the year too, but it can be hit and miss. Edinburgh is lucky to have one of Scotland’s best pike-on-the-fly locations, and our guides have a lot of experience fishing there. Fishinguide guests have enjoyed many great days targeting Edinburgh’s pike.

We can provide packages for as many days as you’d like. Many anglers choose to come for 3 days to sample some different water, some come for a week and often leave with photos to put on their walls of their dream salmon, others simply don’t have time and come on day trips.

1 day trip

A one day trip will give you a taste of what Scottish pike are capable of. Many pike anglers from south of the border are surprised by the power of Scottish pike. These efficient predators are built for speed.

3 day trips

Depending on your location three days of pike fishing will either mean you visit different beautiful piking locations or concentrate on getting a special fish from one spot.

6 day trips

You could have two days in Perthshire, two in Argyll and two in Edinburgh. Or focus on getting the pike of a lifetime from our big fish venue in Argyll. In 6 days of fishing, with the tutelage of our pike expert guide, you’d be unlucky not to get one over 20lb.
